Leigh-on-Sea Pre Wedding Cool Cats
Dressed to Kill
This wickedly cool Couple are Danielle & Adam. Are these guys dressed to kill or what. This was an early pre-wedding shoot of mine way back in 2013. The location was Leigh on Sea. I think I shot around 40 weddings that year. And I was pretty much doing an engagement photoshoot for each wedding. We met at Leigh on Sea.
Killing the Tilt
The weather was pretty much dismal but for me, the contrast with how the guys were dressed, the location, and the dodge weather was juice to create something a little special. As I look at these images now 7 years later I’m happy with them. I photographed the whole deal on a 45mm tilt-shift lens. Tilt-shift lens is manual focus so you are forced into a way of shooting that is comparative with film. You’re slowing, a little more discerning. Man I miss that Lens. I sold it a while back.
No Short Cuts
I would recommend to any photographer starting to do as many pre-wedding portrait shoots as possible. The pressure is off as it’s not a wedding day and you can experiment and if you are new to portraits it is a no brainer. The only way to improve your portrait skills is to take a shit load of portraits. It’s as simple as that. There isn’t a short cut.
Doomsday
Leigh on Sea or Leigh as it’s known is an old fishing and trading settlement on the shore of the Thames Estuary. It’s old. I mean the place was mentioned in the Doomsday book so you do the math :) You can hop a train from London in around 45 mins and I recommend anyone to grab their camera and spend a few hours there. It’s pure character and history.
There was a magic to this workshop that I can’t quite put into words.
