Elopements and Micro Weddings in 2020 / 2021

It may be, with the pandemic still looming large, that you are considering a smaller micro wedding or indeed an elopement wedding. I think these options are a wonderful way to go and perhaps should not be seen merely as a second option. I have photographed some amazing Elopement weddings in recent years and I love to shoot them and I feel some of my best work has come from shooting those days.

Large weddings are great to shoot and quite often as a photographer you are holding on for dear life. A smaller wedding or an Elopement wedding is pretty much the reverse of that. You have all the time in the world to get creative with your approach, you never feel rushed, and there is a real intimacy that informs the photographs simply because on the day there is just the wedding couple and the photographer.

As a consequence of this simplicity we have an abundance of time to experiment, to have fun, be playful and literally go on an adventure to create some photographic magic. I would actually recommend to couples who are not eloping for real to create a day for themselves to do this anyway. Book a day trip somewhere, an adventure, record the day with a photographer simply because you are going to have so much more freedom to shoot and relax into the whole thing whereas on your wedding day the photography is quite often something that is fitted in.

I think Elopements especially are idea for creatives, artists, people who love photography. It’s you two, looking your best, feeling your best and creating a super cool record of that time in your lives.
