Once Upon a London Elopement

The Beauty of an Elopement Style Wedding

With Elopements becoming more the thing to do in these challenging times I thought it might be time to share a few of mine from recent years. This is Zi & Justo - in London circa 2015. We photographed much of the images in and around Shoreditch in East London. The guys were only in town for a few short days but they lit up the streets for the short time I was with them. A beautiful special day with a gorgeous couple.

The beautiful of Elopement weddings is that you have a glorious amount of time to get the photographs that you want. As much as we love our family and friends there a traditional wedding day is a celebration for everyone. The Bride and Groom will rarely get a moment to themselves or more important to be with the person they have just married.

An elopement is the reverse of that. It is just the two of you. All-day. Every elopement is different. Some couples will book me for just a few hours for portraits. Other times I’m booked for the entire day or most of the day and I will simply follow and shoot a beautiful narrative of everything you get up to.

Documentary Style with Stylized Portraits

This is perfect and what I love to do the most. With that amount of time, I am in a position to be able to create something profoundly beautiful. The couple can relax, we are unhurried. Much of the photographs will be spontaneous, documentary style, but we can also break away and create some cool, stylized photographs.

There are no rules and very little in the way of a schedule on an Elopement. The photographs you see in this blog, with Zi & Justo, were on a fairly unusual time scale of just around 2 hours. So pretty much we just short portraits and hardly any documentary. Usually, there is more of a balance between natural documentary and stylized portraits.

Lots of Time and Space

The trick is to meet up possibly for lunch in advance of the day or if this isn’t available a Zoom chat and discuss your preference for the day. Some couples do not want any posed (I prefer the word stylized :)) portraits and will opt simply for a full-on documentary which simply means me following you for as long as you want me to and documenting what happens.

There are no rules and It is your wedding day and the beauty of this kind of elopement wedding is that we can create a thing being totally how we want them to be.

100% with my Couples

The other great thing about Elopements is that I, as the photographer, have a lot more time to get to know you. I am not hurried. There is much more of a connection. My focus is 100% with you guys and it is much easier for me to connect.

So if you are considering an Elopement wedding or a small micro wedding day then let's chat. I am going to be posting a whole bunch more Elopement weddings in the next couple of weeks so do check back from time to time.
