Pub Wedding at St Barts Brewery
This was the coolest wedding culminating in a rock n roll pub reception party at St Barts Brewery in East London. Leanne & Colin were so relaxed and afforded me complete trust to do my thing. I shoot weddings with a dualistic intention.
I want each photograph to stand alone. If you blew the picture up and hung it in your living room and it was the only photography on the wall it would look awesome. At the same time, I want to create a narrative. A story.
Having the total trust of your couple is such a weight off. It’s an odd paradox that to get the best shots for your couples you have to invite them to allow you to be selfish.
They have seen your work. They have booked you to reproduce that quality. So the level of trust for sure informs the degree to which I’m able to get the shots I know they will love. All of this is talked about before the day.
Bridal prep at the Threadneedle Hotel was a joy. Bliss. Bridemaids were on form, music spilled from the stereo. Bubbles in glasses.
We headed to Islington Town Hall for the ceremony. Leanne read a gorgeous passage from The Alchemist. There’s a photograph of her below and the joy in her eyes is palpable. I knew I’d be shooting portraits closer to the reception venue as I wanted that urban contrast.
And still, we got a beautiful set of portraits at the Town Hall also. The corridors there are flanked with huge windows and the light spilling through was exquisite. I love the Bridal Portraits I got of Leanne here as well as Bride & Groom portraits. Some of my fav of pics of the day.
After leaving the town hall we had a shortstop for the wedding breakfast as we weren’t hitting St Barts until around 7 pm. The first stop was at https://www.bistrotheque.com in East London. Time to chill and for the Bride and Groom to get some time with their guests.
It was here also that I grabbed a whole bunch more portraits. The images you see with Leanne and Colin through the car and against the huge black garage facade were all taken here. Eventually, we headed across town on a double-decker bus to St Bart's Brewery.
This is one of the most celebrated of Londons Wedding Pub Venues. If you want a pub wedding and want it in London you have to check this space out. It’s also the coolest live music space several times a week hosting a whole bunch of different sounds from jazz and funk and six-piece party bands.
As soon as we entered the bar the party was on. The band was rocking a set as soon as the Bride and Groom entered. Banging. It was then dancing bliss for the rest of the night. Colin is American so a whole bunch of the guests had crossed the oceans to be there.
There wasn’t a hesitant guest in the house. Everyone was up and tearing up the night. A beautiful day. A glorious night that will be remembered for a long time to come I’m sure.
